Our life is a journey – every moment we encounter is precious and should be cherished. Sometimes these moments are so ephemeral that only by capturing these moments can we keep them timeless. Co-sponsored by the Center for Spirituality, Dialogue and Service (CSDS) and ISSI, Interfaith Harmony Week is a unique opportunity to celebrate and learn about the rich religious diversity at Northeastern University and in the wider world. Highlights of this week include the February 10th keynote speaker Eboo Patel, internationally-acclaimed author and founder of the Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) (co-sponsored by Student Affairs and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities.) Other activities include campus dialogues, community service opportunities, special prayer, worship, and mediation programs, a faculty panel, and movie night. To celebrate Russian culture, the ISSI is collaborating with the NU Russian Speaking Club to offer a workshop on the Russian folk art tradition of nested doll painting. Matryoshka (Russian nesting dolls) are a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. Participants will design their own dolls and learn the story of the Matryoshka doll. “Aria di Commedia – An Evening of Commedia dell’Arte and Italian Renaissance Music” is presented by the troupe “Pazzi Lazzi”. Actors will interpret characters like Arlecchino, Pantalone, Pulcinella, and Colombina with their troubles resulting from human weaknesses like envy, lust, and greed. Musical interludes will be performed by Renaissonics. Whether you call it soccer or football, get your game face on and kickoff this year’s Andrés Alarcón Soccer Tournament! Come watch as teams compete for this coveted title and a personalized plaque on the ISSI’s championship trophy. Only one team will emerge victorious; do you have what it takes?

Andrés Alarcón was a dedicated student at Northeastern and an enthusiastic member of the ISSI. He was very active on campus and, unfortunately, left this world all too early. He was an avid soccer fan, so in his honor this tournament is named.
